Description

Rita requires a specific home that will give her the time and love she needs.

Rita came into our care heavily pregnant from the pound many months ago, going on to give birth to 10 beautiful pups via emergency c-section after falling into difficulty during her labour. Rita has been a great mother to her kids, despite not being able to make enough milk for them, she has been here to teach them how to play :P Rita is still with her pups, but they are fully weaned and she is now seeking a forever home of her own., Rita may need more than one visit to help bond. Rita can be a shy girl, she has both Mother and I here caring for her in our home, but she reacts differently to us both. With my mother she is still timid, but will accept attention, go on walks with her, but does still cower down from her at times or run to the other side of the room when she enters. She is still a little timid and shy with my mother. With me, she isnt. Everytime I turn around she is there, she wags her tail for me and will try to engage in playful behaviours. She is certainly more confident with myself, but I have been with her day and night since she came into our care, caring for both her and her babies. With new people she is wary, and she will take some time and patience to show you her playful and fun side, she is a still a pup at heart who loves flinging her toys around and chasing her pups around the kitchen. She would like a home with teens and over, no young kids. Whilst she isnt nasty in anyway, young kids would be too much for her currently as she just isnt confident enough in herself and they would startle her. We want her to have a home where she can feel relaxed and have the time she needs to blossom into the great girl we know she is. At the moment it is hard to say how Rita is in a house, as she has been raising her pups in ours, so its not the same as living on her own. She isnt destructive here so far, but she is used to the company of her pups and before that, she was used to the company of another dog who came into the pound with her. So she will likely need someone who is home alot initally and can build up the leaving times slowly, so that she doesnt become anxious. She could potentially live with another dog following a successful meet and greet, we will be working on her socialisation over the coming weeks. But she has lived around other dogs before no problem, but at the moment she is still in protective mummy mode. Rita walks well on the lead so far, but sometimes does get spooked, but with some tasty treats and reassurance she comes around quickly. She honestly has been a good girl with me and I know that right now we havent seen her full true self yet, as she was heavily pregnant when she came in and she now has her kids. So until they are rehomed and she is back to being just Rita, we wont know her true self fully. But I have no doubts she will mature into the best girl. Rita is not suited to a home with cats or small animals such as rabbits etc.
